Today we’d like to introduce you to Donato De Martiis.
Son of an Italian professional fighter in the ’50s, Donato De Martiis from Turin, Italy has been a passionate boxing fan since his early childhood. After years of amateur fighting in Xavi Moya’s legendary Barcelona gym, Donato moved up the ranks to the United States stage in Miami, Florida.
In Miami, De Martiis trained with well-known boxing guru Luis Lagerman, at the world-famous 5th Street Gym– where Muhammad Ali got his start. Throughout his boxing career, Donato crossed paths in the ring with some of the biggest names in the sport, such as Yuriorkis Gamboa, Selcuk Ayidin, Odlanier Solís, and Sinan Samil San.
When Donato finally hung up his gloves, he was involved in the business side of the industry and traveled all over the world, attending many televised fights in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and even Eurosport boxing cards in Germany and Turkey. As a certified trainer, he rejoined his 5th Street Gym family, training professional boxers and celebrities.
Throughout his extensive career, Donato has learned the standards necessary for fighters’ equipment and set out to establish Virtuos Boxing as an authority and leader in the boxing industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was hard when I moved to America, I turned pro, and as a pro you have to train twice a day, I had to work at the same time, it was tough. I suffered injuries during training, and I had very little time to rest and recover.
Also, my training camp was very tough, I was training with big names in the game, world-class fighters, I had to gain my respect to be able to be part of the training camp.
Please tell us about Virtuos Boxing.
I am a professional certified boxing coach and conditioner trainer. I train every day private clients who are locals from Miami. I also run the fitness program for SBE hotels, at SLS and Delano hotels we have tourists every day who wants to stay in shape while they are on vacation in Miami.
We offer different activities from yoga, boot camp and boxing which all take place on the beach, between me and my Team of experienced trainers we deliver an authentic experience and make sure they start their day with the right foot.
I also have my Team of professional fighters who I coach every day. I get them ready for their competitions, I travel with them all over the world and walk them through their carriers, with the objective to become World Champions.
At the same time, I have created a brand called www.virtuosboxing.com, we manufacture boxing shoes, designed in Italy, with the best leather you can find on the market, very comfortable, innovative, created for a better performance but also with a fashionable look, to shine in the ring under the spotlights but also Virtuos shoes are so cool and comfortable that you want to wear them to go out at night with a pair of jeans or a mini skirt.

Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
Persistent, consistent, believe in my brand but most of all, I love what I do, therefore even n the hardest and longest days I still don’t consider it work.
